Victory Baptist Church, located on Marshall Mill Road north of the highway 42 intersection, has had a long and interesting history. It was originally chartered a "Congregational Methodist" Church in 1815. In 1952, it changed to the Congregational Christian denomination. August 2, 1959, it was officially reconstituted as Society Hill Baptist Church and became a part of the Rehoboth Association of the Southern Baptist Convention until February 2002, when the congregation voted to change the name to Victory Baptist Church and become an independent Baptist Church. September 2004 marked the official reconstituting as Victory.

The original building lasted 135 years, but by the early 1950's, had reached such a state of disrepair that it had to be torn down. The floor was rotting away and the building had become unsafe and unusable. In November 1953, the old church was torn down, and for the next two years, while the new church was being built, worship services were held in the homes of different members. The existing sanctuary building was completed in November 1955.
In 1960 a Sunday School wing was built and a Fellowship Hall was completed in 1963. Central heat and air was installed in 1969, bricking the outside of the church was done in 1971, and the steeple with chimes was installed in 1976. Since 2004, we have completely renovated the facilities, dug a new well, erected a new sign, paved the parking lot, purchased a new bus and van, bought a baby grand piano, built a playground area, and constructed a new 4200 square foot Fellowship Hall.
The first trustees of the church were W. G. Aultman, J. M. Gibson, J. F. Chance, A. J. Joyner and J. R. Joyner. The men who served as pastor of Society Hill Baptist Church included: Woodrow Dorsey (1951-1962), Harry Mosley (1962-1966), Joel Butterworth (1966-1970), Jesse Richardson (1970-1976), Raymond Etheridge (1976-?), Carl Bird (early eighties), Robin Tedder (mid-eighties), Kevin Sapp (early nineties), Paul Weldon (1995-2000), and Ryan Fortenberry. The name was changed to Victory while Benji Dial was serving as a bi-vocational pastor in 2002. Garnold Bodenheimer served as interim pastor for a period of approximately fifteen months during 2002 and 2003. In October 2003, the church called Chet Cooper to be their pastor and he began his ministry in March 2004.
In September 2004, fifty-one people became charter members of the newly reconstituted Victory Baptist Church. Since then another eighty souls have united in membership with the church. Our attendance is averaging ninety-five for Sunday School and 115 for the morning worship service, and 72 for the Sunday evening worship service.
We began Faith Promise Missions in November 2003. Since then, the Lord has allowed us to take on 60 missionary families and ministries for monthly support.
As we Attempt Great things for God , we are Anticipating Great things from God.
